What’s the Score at Halftime?
For many of us, the end of June marks the end of the 1st half of the year. It’s a great time to look at the score board and see if we are running ahead or behind where we expected to be at this point. This evaluation can be personally, professionally, within our businesses, or my favorite… all the above.
When it comes to our business, for some, this can be a bit overwhelming. Especially if we don’t have our strategic vision clearly defined. But regardless of having a clear strategy or not, I’ve learned that success can only be achieved through continued execution, and a cycle of improvement. This is why we created our Operations Framework. To give a clear visual of what I’ve used throughout my professional career and now as an independent consultant to drive growth and operate with excellence.
Built on our Foundations Framework of Plan, Execute, Review, Revise, and Repeat, are the 4 Key Pillars of an Effective Business System: Planning, People, Process, and Technology.
Evaluating how we are doing in each of the 7 Key Business System categories through the lens of these 4 pillars will give us a much more in-depth pulse of our business than simply reviewing the financial statements.
I wrote here about the difference between leading and lagging indicators and if we only concentrate of reviewing our financials at the end of the month, quarter, half, and year, we often miss visible signs of impending doom which obviously we don’t want to do! I know, a bit dramatic, but I’m trying to drive a point home!
Those leading indicators become our signals to drive improvement efforts and change our course thus impacting our financial statements before they are actually generated.
We have several free resources available to help you with an unbiased and outside perspective.
Our Operational Excellence Snapshot is a great place to get started.
There is still plenty of time left in the year to boost your bottom line.
That’s it for today.
Happy Canada Day to my Canadian friends and Happy 4th of July to my American friends!
See you all again next week!
